Our Occupational Therapy (OT) services support children and young people to build the practical skills they need to participate confidently in everyday life; at home, school and in the community.
Links to Life takes a whole-person, functional approach, considering how physical skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, behaviour and the environment interact. We don’t look at challenges in isolation, we look at how they show up in real life and impact daily routines, learning and relationships.
Working closely with our in-house Behaviour Support Practitioners, our OTs in Sydney assess how a child manages transitions, self-care, emotional regulation, sensory input, and social participation. From there, we develop individualised, goal-driven therapy plans that are practical, achievable, and embedded into everyday routines.
Our approach is flexible and individualised because no two families, environments or goals are the same.
Families seeking Occupational Therapy for children often want support that is practical and immediately relevant. Our team helps children build abilities such as organisation, emotional regulation, motor coordination and independence with everyday tasks. These supports are designed to fit naturally into routines so progress can continue beyond therapy sessions and into daily life.
For families exploring Occupational Therapy for children, it is important that therapy goals are meaningful and achievable. Our team focuses on building skills that improve daily routines, independence and confidence across environments.
Over time, Occupational Therapy can help children build practical skills that support everyday life while giving families the tools and confidence to continue supporting progress at home. As routines become easier and children feel more capable in their environments, the whole family may often experience greater calm, consistency and connection.
Our team regularly works with families and Support Coordinators across Ryde, North Ryde and Sydney’s North Shore, to assist them to understand how our Occupational Therapy for children fits within the goals of a NDIS plan.
At Links to Life, Occupational Therapy services and Behaviour Support work side by side, not in silos.
Many challenges children experience with behaviour are closely linked to sensory processing, emotional regulation, routines and environmental demands.
Behaviour Support focuses on understanding the reasons behind behaviours and helping children develop safer, more effective ways to communicate their needs. Behaviour Practitioners work with children, families and support teams to identify triggers, build emotional regulation skills and create practical strategies that reduce stress and frustration. Rather than simply responding to behaviours, the goal is to understand what the child is trying to communicate and support them with skills that improve everyday participation.
When Occupational Therapists and Behaviour Practitioners collaborate, children receive clearer, more consistent support.
When behaviour, regulation and daily functioning are supported together, children make stronger progress.
Our integrated Occupational Therapy and Behaviour Support model ensures strategies are aligned, practical and consistent, helping children feel understood and supported across all environments.

Occupational therapy for children focuses on helping children develop the practical skills needed to participate in everyday activities such as dressing, eating, learning at school and playing with others. Through a child and family-centred approach, OT can help build independence and confidence through meaningful daily routines.
At Links to Life, we provide occupational therapy for children and young people, supporting individuals at different stages of life to build the skills they need for everyday participation and independence.
You may consider occupational therapy for children when your child is experiencing challenges with everyday activities such as dressing, eating, writing, play skills or participating in school routines. A children’s occupational therapist can also support difficulties with fine motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation or transitions between activities.
Your child’s first session with an OT usually focuses on getting to know your child, understanding their strengths and challenges and discussing your family’s goals. A children’s occupational therapist may complete an initial screening/assessment to observe how your child plays, moves, communicates and manages everyday tasks.
The OT functional assessment helps the therapist understand how your child participates in daily routines such as self-care, learning and social interaction.
The time it takes to see progress from occupational therapy services can vary depending on your child’s individual needs and goals. Factors such as their age, developmental profile, sensory needs and the frequency of sessions can all influence how quickly changes become noticeable. A coordinated approach with other supports, such as behaviour therapy, can also play an important role.
Some families may notice improvements in specific skills within a few weeks, while more complex goals can take several months of consistent support.
Ongoing practice at home, school and during therapy sessions helps children build confidence and apply new skills in everyday situations. Collaborating with teachers and families also supports the carryover of learned skills across different environments, helping children generalise what they have learned beyond the therapy room.

At Links to Life, occupational therapy for children is delivered within a broader early intervention approach that considers sensory processing, behaviour, emotional regulation and daily routines.
An OT functional assessment considers areas such as motor coordination, sensory processing, cognitive planning, emotional regulation and independence with daily tasks.
Our assessments use a combination of standardised assessment tools and structured clinical observations to build an accurate and holistic picture of your child’s abilities, and families and carers are actively involved throughout the process.
At Links to Life, we use a collaborative approach to functional assessments. Our OTs work alongside Behaviour Therapists to provide a more complete picture of your child’s needs, ensuring recommendations are coordinated and meaningful across all areas of their development.
The results help therapists develop individualised therapy goals and identify practical strategies that support children with autism or other special needs across home, school and community environments. An FCA report may be written where applicable to support NDIS funding applications.
